I work with people in South London and online providing hypnotherapy for attachment issues which is affecting their relationship with themselves and with others.

We develop attachments with the first people in our lives to care for us – usually our parents. If our parents do most of the things we require (give us affection, make us feel safe, fulfil our physical and emotional needs – feed, love and nurture us) most of the time, we are likely to develop a secure attachment. This means we learn to trust other people because we’ve had this very early experience of them loving us and taking care of our needs. Trusting others means we can have intimate relationships with them. We also learn to value ourselves because we’ve experienced feeling loved and special and when we feel like this we can extend it to others and acknowledge that they have as much value as us too.

However, if we did not experience consistent care and attention when we were young, we may learn something very different and these early relationships act like a blueprint for all the other relationships we have in the future.  So we mirror what we have learnt as children onto our later relationships.

Hypnotherapy for Attachment Issues Can Help If You:

  • Feel very anxious and insecure. Believe you do not have as much value as others, that others are more interesting or more important than you. You are often clingy in relationships and dread being alone.
  • Feel independent and that you don’t ‘need’ relationships or that being in one is important. You have a very positive self-image. You keep your distance from others and don’t tend to show your emotions. Partners may describe you as being ‘cold’.
  • You do want close relationships, but you have trouble trusting other people and depending on them. You might avoid getting too close to people because you’re scared of getting hurt.

Hypnotherapy for Attachment Issues: the Brain

Firstly, if you think you have an insecure attachment which is causing you problems, try to remember it’s not your fault – it’s your brain’s way of protecting you. Your brain has learnt certain patterns of behavior and responses that are largely unconscious but it’s definitely possible to change these through hypnotherapy.
