EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a type of therapy that helps people heal from past traumas, emotional distress, and painful memories.

My approach is called Advanced EMDR which works gently to make sure my clients have all the resources they need to deal with distressing emotions. It uses mindfulness to build up resilience, starting with the body.

EMDR is about helping your brain do what it naturally wants to do—heal. Just like your body works to recover from a physical wound, your mind also has a natural healing process.

Sometimes, though, intense experiences can interrupt that process, leaving you feeling stuck. EMDR helps restart it.

The therapy works by guiding you to briefly focus on a troubling memory while also engaging in something called bilateral stimulation which basically means engaging both sides of the brain. I use eye movements or tapping, whichever you feel most comfortable with, in order to do this.

The goal isn’t to erase memories, but to reduce the emotional intensity of them, so they no longer feel overwhelming or disruptive in your daily life. Over time, people often find that the memories and emotions feel distant or less painful, and so they feel more at peace.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy

Along with EMDR I also use therapeutic hypnosis to strengthen healing and speed up change.

Hypnotherapy has been proven to be extremely effective for bringing about change by accessing the unconscious mind. It’s really very safe because you’ll always be aware of what’s going on and what you’re doing. Most people only need a light trance which means you’ll feel relaxed whilst being able to hear my voice and respond to what I’m saying as I make positive suggestions which will help you make the changes you want.

Most of the hypnotherapy will actually happen outside of sessions as I’ll make you your own, bespoke recording so you can listen to it any time you need on your own device.

I’ll make sure you feel comfortable and in control at all times. As a member of the National Council of Hypnotherapy I am bound by their code of ethics and best practice.

Somatic Therapy

When people think of therapy, they often imagine talking through problems with a counsellor. But what if healing could also come through the body, not just the mind?

That’s the idea behind somatic therapy—a holistic approach that sees our physical bodies as a key part of how we experience and process emotions, trauma, and stress. “Somatic” simply means “of the body,” and this method helps people tune into physical feelings as a way to emotional well-being.

Somatic therapy is based on the idea that our bodies hold onto experiences—especially stressful or traumatic ones—even if we don’t consciously remember them. For example, if you’ve ever noticed your shoulders tense when you’re anxious, or felt your stomach drop in a moment of fear, you’ve experienced this mind-body connection first-hand.

In our therapy sessions I will guide you through breathwork, gentle movement, or noticing and naming sensations in your body. These practices help release stored tension and help you heal.
