Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a modern approach devised by the Quest Institute. It takes all the best bits from other therapies and approaches such as Positive Psychology, Gestalt and Neuro-Linguistic Programming which means I have lots of great tools to help you no matter what your issue. These support you on your way to ultimately dealing with any situation in life in a way which is in your best interests, so you are working to be the person you were meant to be, rather than struggling through life and battling yourself. Sometimes that may mean changing how your brain responds to things or by giving you ways to manage any negative emotions before they get out of control. It’s a holistic approach so you can expect every part of your life to feel the benefits as you change.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy - the Hypnotherapy Part
Hypnotherapy has been proven to be extremely effective for bringing about change by accessing the unconscious mind. It’s really very safe because you’ll always be aware of what’s going on and what you’re doing. Most people only need a light trance which means you’ll feel relaxed whilst being able to hear my voice and respond to what I’m saying as I make positive suggestions which will help you make the changes you want. Most of the hypnotherapy will actually happen outside of sessions as I’ll make you your own, bespoke recording so you can listen to it any time you need on your own device.
I’ll make sure you feel comfortable and in control at all times. As a member of the National Council of Hypnotherapy I am bound by their code of ethics and best practice.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy - The Unconscious
The unconscious is where a lot of our emotions are dealt with, whilst logical thinking is processed in another part of the brain. This is why it’s really important to access the unconscious if we want to change our emotions – change is not purely a cognitive process. Doing this means we can make changes relatively quickly and there’s no need to go over traumatic incidents from the past either.
A lot of our beliefs about ourselves are also stored here and these beliefs are often established in childhood. Beliefs such as I’m not good enough, I’m scared, I’m such a failure…but the problem is, because these are in the unconscious, we may not even be fully aware of the impact these have on us. We think this is just how we are when in fact, these beliefs can wreak damage on the decisions we make and our behaviour so we don’t get the chance to be the people we were meant to be. Cognitive Hypnotherapy can powerfully change these limiting beliefs, freeing us up to believe we can do anything we want.
